There are five sitting TDs contesting the Wicklow Constituency in the upcoming general election, and the only certainty is that one of them must lose their seat. That is because a chunk of southern Wicklow has been moved, by the boundary commission, into the new seat of Wicklow-Wexford, leaving what remains as a smaller, four-seat constituency.
Those five TDs represent five different parties: The cast and characters for this game of musical chairs will comprise two cabinet Ministers: An Taoiseach, Simon Harris, as well as Fianna Fáil’s Stephen Donnelly. They are joined by a third Government TD, the Green Party’s Steven Mathews. The Soc Dems have Deputy Jennifer Whitmore, and Sinn Fein will seek the re-election of Deputy Johnny Brady.
