The accused 46-year-old man was denied bail after a court heard Gardaí were “at a loss” as to how he entered the country. The man is from outside the EU and was charged with raping a woman in Co. Kildare on a date in June 2017.

The man said “it was not 2017” after being charged, and records show he has never engaged with immigration services.

Detective Garda Gerard Moore objected to bail citing a flight risk and told Dublin District Court that the accused’s passport had no stamps for entering Ireland or the UK.
