The mother of an Irish woman, who advocacy group ‘Detained in Dubai’ claim is facing “lengthy imprisonment” in Dubai, has called on the government to save her daughter.
28-year-old Roscommon woman Tori Towey was reportedly charged in relation to ‘attempted suicide and alcohol consumption’ in the Arab state.
Pleading for help from Irish authorities, Towey’s mother Caroline said, “we are calling on our local representatives, the foreign office, embassy and Prime Minister to please do everything to get my daughter home safely. She’s been through the worst time of her life and needs to come home with me and heal,” she said.

Commenting on the case, Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane said, “This is absolutely frightening. I have been in touch with Micheál Martin and I will be raising this in the Dáil. Irish Government needs to intervene on this urgently.”
Towey moved to Dubai after being offered a position with Emirates Airlines but was subjected to an assault in her home leading her to try and return to Ireland.
Detained in Dubai says the assault led Towey “to an attempt to take her own life. Rather than helping her go home to Ireland with her mother, Dubai authorities charged her with attempted suicide and alcohol consumption.”
“ She now faces lengthy imprisonment in jails notorious for human rights abuses and torture.” it alleged.
The group’s CEO, Radha Stirling, said, “The horrific events that transpired next will forever scar Tori”,
The group says that Emirates Airlines gave the injured woman time off work to recover but that when she was replacing her passport she discovered that there was a travel ban on her.
