Fianna Fáil by-election candidate, Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee complained in 2011 that she had to sit beside a “black, Brazilian dwarf” on a Dublin Bus journey.

Several tweets have emerged from Senator Clifford-Lee, dating to 2011 and 2012, and have been circulated on twitter by political opponents.

Several of these tweets refer to travellers in particular, with the Senator referring negatively to items of clothes that “look like something from a traveller wedding”, and complaining that her car had been “stolen by a knacker”.

She also remarked that there were some things that could not be said “because you’d be accused of being racist/anti-traveller”.

Senator Clifford-Lee is the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Seanad. She is 38 years old, meaning that these comments were made when she was 30 years old.

Gript has contacted the Fianna Fáil Press Office, and Senator Clifford, for comment.
