The European Commission has rejected the registration of a proposal to place a moratorium on non-Western migration, both legal and illegal, into the European Union.
The initiative, called the Save Europe Act, was spearheaded by Dutch nationalist and political commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek, Austrian identitarian activist Martin Sellner, and Belgian activist Dries Van Langenhove, who last week led a crowd of supporters in front of the EU Parliament building in Brussels, where police had set up a blockade of barriers with barbed wire.
The group, along with a crowd of supporters including Polish MEP Dominik Tarczyński, brought over 530,000 signatures to the heart of Brussels before the Commission today refused to accept the political instrument.
“This is an outrageous violation of the democratic rights of the native peoples of Europe,” Vlaardingerbroek said on X, vowing that the group would not give in.
The group are aiming to gather 1,000,000 signatures to lobby for a halt to non-Western immigration into the EU as well as expel any migrants who are dependent on state welfare, have committed crimes, or are a “threat or a burden” to their host nations.
In its rejection of the proposal, the Commission noted that “all the proposed objectives of the initiative have, as their starting point, the ‘temporary moratorium on new non-Western immigration channels’ and that the “proposed generalised moratorium on immigration – defined on the basis of ‘ethnic and cultural continuity’ of ‘native peoples of Europe’ against what the initiative characterises as ‘demographic replacement’ by ‘non-Western’ and ‘non-European’ migrants – would not be based on migration-management criteria but on the ethnic, cultural or civilisational origin of the persons concerned” and that, “Therefore, the proposed generalised moratorium would discriminate on the basis of race and ethnic origin.”
The rejection further stated that, “It is thus manifestly contrary to Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (see, to that effect, judgment of 6 September 2017, Slovakia and Hungary v Council, C 643/15 and C 647/15, EU: C:2017:631, paragraph 305) and to the values enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU), upon which the Union is founded.”
It also found that “respect for national identities under Article 4(2) TEU does not authorise measures that are incompatible with the Union’s foundational values or fundamental rights and thus the group of organisers cannot rely on national identity to justify a broad exclusion from immigration channels based on ethnic origin.”
Herman Tertsch, a Spanish journalist and member of the European Parliament, said that, “The European Commission only recognises as Citizens’ Initiatives the NGOs of the far left, associations supporting immigrant traffickers, Greta-style eco-fanatic lunatics, and franchises of the Muslim Brotherhood. “
“A patriots’ initiative from the European nations like @SaveEuropeAct that has just submitted half a million signatures does not meet Von der Leyen’s conditions; that is, it is not socialist, anti-national, anti-capitalist, indigenist, pro-Islamist, pro-guerrilla, nor very supportive of the invasion of illegal immigrants and the destruction of the identity of the nations,” he said.
The Save Europe Act was launched at the Remigration Summit in Porto last May, where approximately 600 people gathered to hear speeches from Sellner, Vlaardingerbroek, and Van Langenhove among others.
Among the topics discussed were falling birth rates, demographic change, lack of access to housing, migrant crime statistics, and issues related to freedom of speech.
Vlaardingerbroek, who was recently banned from entering the UK by the Starmer government, and Belgian nationalist activist and former MP, Dries Van Langenhove, who has been convicted of hate speech twice in relation to memes circulating in a group chat, and statements he made which a judge said did not have to be false to breach Belgium’s anti racism laws.
“Europe is our home, we have no other, and we are not willing to lose it,” Vlaardingerbroek said in a promotional video for the conference in which she referred to Europe as the “greatest civilisation to have ever existed.”
Martin Sellner, co-founder of Identitarian Movement Austria or Generation Identity, was permanently banned from entering the UK by then Home Secretary Sajid Javid, who described Generation Identity as “an organisation which actively promotes anti-Islamic and anti-immigration narratives and directly targets Islamic communities through publicity stunts”.
