Dublin Airport ends 75-year-long tradition of allowing priests to bless planes

Dublin Airport has abandoned its annual Christmas tradition of allowing a Catholic priest to bless the planes after John Hamill, a secular campaigner, requested the right to hold a non-religious blessing.

The 75-year-long tradition, which sees a Catholic priest attend the airport on Christmas day, when no planes take off or land at the airport, to bless all planes, will not take place this year.

What ever happened to INCLUSION and TOLERANCE?
If the LGBT or Transgender brigade had had a years-long established ceremonial arrangement at the airport, would that have been similarly shut down on the strength of one individual’s complaint??

Getting a plane blessed by a priest is just ridiculous in this day and age!

Not if you consider the number of Airline Pilotss whi were coerced into being Injected with the Toxic Covid 19 Injection and the large number of advere reactions from the Injection.
I prefer the slow boat these days and avoid Airports,
Pour on the Holy water, these Sky Pilots need all the help they can get.

Inclusion & tolerance only works one way nowadays. Christians have no objection to the spaghetti monster & don’t try to change his customs. Shame on DAA for caving in – the simple blessing wasn’t a security risk for 75 years – why now?

Aah, I’m an atheist and I think this is sad. A lovely little old Ireland tradition. It’s a privilege to be connected to our past, not burden, even if sensibilities around the plausibility of God existing have changed. Also, very arrogant of the jokers to try disrupt something that doesn’t affect them.

I wonder will they carry out a security risk profile of all the undocumented migrants coming in from abroad? It might be one way to stop them. “Sorry sir but if you have no passport we cannot allow you to disembark – health and safety you see”.

Atheism will die out in Ireland before Christianity and Islam because secularists are less likely to have children (because they usually have other more materialistic priorities)

Luckily, with a strong secularist government in power and their secularist program for government these, these things will be provided.

So you equate owning a house and car with materialism? A house is a vital necessity, that many Irish have been deprived of. A housing crisis in Ireland for the Irish. None for the foreigner, who has been given priority status in housing over the heads of the Irish to fuel an agenda. A car is a vital necessity in the country.

This appears on the surface to be another example of reality being overcome by idiocy. The reality is the Christian blessing, though ignored by many is welcomed by many more as having some value for the planes and passengers who are glad God is asked to look out for their well-being.

A pastafarian blessing is a meaningless frivolity. The percentage of Irish people who might feel the least bit offended by having spqghetti water excluded must be close to nil because there is zero potential benefit to planes and passengers from such a meaningless act.

For well-meaning technocrats to appear stymied by this non-event suggests they wanted to do away with the blessing anyway (they are probably embarassed by it). Out pastafarians just gave them the out they were looking for.

Pascal would consider DAA management foolish!

Sad to see another quirky Irish tradition go by the wayside because some knobs decided to object and others panicked. The article mentions the priest using a “Chalice” to hold the holy water. In my day it was a holy water stoup.

But do they have saints’ names? The only saint’s name that I remember on a plane was on a poster of an Aer Lingus plane, put up on the wall in my school in 1960. It was the St. Brendan and it was written on the outside. I thought that was abolished as I see no names on planes. What’s the point in having a name, if they don’t let us know? It must be written on it, so that we know. The amount of anti-Catholic state bigotry in this country is phenomenal. That’s why I do not listen to RTÉ any more. Stink with bigotry and the promotion of bigotry. Dublin Airport added to that list for me now. The lesser the minority, the louder their shout.

Yes Mary, the one in the picture in the article above says St Flannan on it. I always thought it was a nice thing. My husband’s auntie lives in America and won’t fly with anyone else when she flys here. She was the one who told me about it 25 years ago.

Thanks. I see it now but it’s inconspicuous, in case it might be seen. We are only whispering in 2024, for fear of offending. The St. Brendan was in clear writing. Never mind, there’s a name on it anyway, but I’d never notice it, if flying with them.

A Catholic Priests Blessing gives the Plane Divine Protection from Evil, and disasters, because the Name of The Father, Son and Holy Spirit is invoked.
Aer Lingus hasn’t had air disasters due to the Blessing and may regret their decision.

Any Deity other than God the Father Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit won’t give protection.

Mary Reynolds

There is no such thing as a non-religious blessing, for a start. A blessing is asking for God’s favour and protection. Out with the priest, in with the drag queen, that’s what this corrupt government did to Irish society. However, any priest can bless the airport any time he likes, when he is passing through, without saying a word to any of our enemies. Lots of priests can do this. We are a Christian country and I do not think the airport authority can withdraw an existing custom and cannot decide a priest cannot bless planes. Catholic people feel safer in a plane that is blessed. Not anymore. John Hamill wants to wipe out religion. That’s the point. That’s what this government and SF did to us, in their frantic attempts to wipe out our religion and our values. They have taken down Catholic religious emblems in schools and hospitals. We, Catholics are the only group of the congregational religions, who have religious emblems. Some Protestants have some which are the same as ours. They should be restored. This govt destroyed our country and our education system too. Everything is sex based now. Between their legs is where it is at for the powers in control. Education is now an indoctrination system for our small children. The airport authority are only nobodies. A crowd of wimps who are afraid of reduction in funding if they do not give the Catholic religion a kick in the arse out the door. A priest giving an official blessing to planes takes from nobody. What will John Hamill have in store? Will he have a drag queen doing a performance? We know what to do. Take a flight from Belfast. Leave the Irish authorities with their devil god the Púca, with his tail cocked in the air. That’s all they and SF are reduced to now, pulling the devil by the tail.

Airlines and nations come and go. They are temporary, passing phenomena. In the end, only God remains.

The púca is the devil. He is this government’s god and has a special feast at Halloween, dedicated all to himself. Our tradition has been All Saints’ and All Souls’ day at that time, going back since Christianity came to Ireland. No mention of that on RTÉ, only paganism at Halloween. That’s why I stopped listening to their bigotry. The same in schools, all about black witches and the pagan. All promoted by female teachers, who are only regurgitating their own indoctrination.

Blessing is a pagan practice anyway from an individual who practices are more aligned with babylon that Jesus. I dont remember anything in the bible about priests making magic holy water and using it to protect things.

What has a priest got to do with john the babptist? Second question, did john the babtist bless the waters before baptism? I actually expect direct answers to these questions btw. To answer yours, why would you suggest such a ludicrous thing like magic water when when i make no mention of neither john the baptist or magic water. You context is ludicrous and outside the context of the statement. It seems to be an irish thing when you cant address something directly, stick in a non comparative context. Weird silly behavior. Why not bring up john the baptists head is in a mosque in damascus altogether because it makes the same amount of sense as your question.

Ill rephrase this because I do not know if its cognitive dissonance or what. John the baptist did not perform blessings on the river jordan before baptising. It was a baptism of people which instills the holy spirit in them and you are trying to compare that to a satanist pretending to represent jesus doing hocus pocus on water and throwing it at an inanimate object. Are you trying to say that your priest baptises the plane or what because the context is just garbage? Are you saying the priest puts the holy spirit in the plane as well? Ill put it this way, if you want to worship the pope and his god (since the pope never seems to mention his name yahweh) which is clearly jupiter, you crack on. You were given free will after all. I chose to actually follow the scriptures which does not mention anything about filling water and planes with the holy spirit and I will follow the actual commandments which include the one that the rcc intentionally removed to facilitate their pagan worship. With all due respect, your responses just highlight how utterly ludicrous the rcc is.
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

It’s just a nice thing to do James. Growing up most houses had a little holy water font in the hall, my mother would bless us using the sign of the cross on us before we left the house to keep us safe then when we got older and we said cheerio to her she would say “don’t forget to bless your self” when I brought my house my mother in law got me a font for my hall and a bottle of holy water from knock.

Should NGOs like NWCI be allowed to spend money they receive from the Government on political campaigns?
