“The prayers worked”: Donegal grandad beats COVID-19 – home to neighbours’ applause

A heartwarming video showing a Donegal grandad who beat COVID-19 returning home on Good Friday to huge applause from the neighbours has gone viral.

“The prayers worked,” a smiling Dónal Bradley told his neighbours from a safe distance. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

“I’m as weak as water,” he said. “But I’ll be all right. We beat the Covid-19.”

Mr Bradley arrived home to Burwood in Buncrana after 13 days in the Intensive Care Unit in Letterkenny University Hospital and seven days on a ventilator. His neighbours, all the while observing social distancing, came out to welcome him home with balloons, posters and sustained applause.

“Today is a Good Friday for us Bradleys,” his daughter Danielle posted on social media. “Our daddy fought Covid 19 with all his heart and it has paid off. We are so SO happy to have him home to us in Burwood.”

She thanked everyone for “all the well wishes, prayers & thoughts” and sent special thanks to the “nurses & doctors that cared for our daddy” and the” lovely neighbours & friends for the welcome home while keeping 2 meters apart per family.”

“Keep safe everyone,” she concluded.
