For all of the vitriol the Church receives over its refusal to bend the knee and say that ‘love is love’, that gay relationships – and the myriad other sexualities popularised in recent years – are equal to marriage between a man and a woman, the Church has often demonstrated itself, on the ground, willing to entertain discussion and even outright dissent.
Its ongoing synodal process is an example of entertaining discussion, whereas the conduct of a number of diocesan youth services is an example of outright dissent.
