Coronavirus: Google’s 8000 workers to stay home as staff shows flu symptoms

Some 8,000 Google staff have been told to work from home tomorrow because a staff member reported flu-like symptoms amid Coronaviris fears. 

It is thought unlikely that the worker has the Covid-19 virus, it is believed that Google thought to test the company’s capacity to have all staff work remotely in view of the risk of the coronavirus outbreak worsening.

All of Google’s Irish offices will be closed, except for its data centre.

A Google statement said the decision was a “precautionary measure to protect the health and safety” of the workforce.

The coronavirus is set to become a global pandemic, and is present on every continent except Antarctica. Almost 90,000 people have been infected and more than 3,000 have died.
