Correspondence issued last week by the Dept of Integrations’ Community Engagement Unit to the Independent TD for Laois Offaly Carol Nolan explictly confirming the offer of Birr Technology Centre for consideration as a possible Ukrainian accomodation site has since been challenged and clarified by the European Tech Hub who manage the Birr site.
Although Deputy Nolan was provided with clear confirmation, it has now emerged that the reply from the Department’s Community Engagement Unit was lacking in specificity and unintentionally provided misleading information to the Independent TD.
Deputy Nolan said that she was happy to accept that the issue is now the subject of clarification but criticised the Unit for failing to provide a full and complete reply to the unambigous question she asked:
“I accepted the bona fides of the Engagement Unit and the accuracy of the intitial reply as factual. However It is now clear that greater levels of specificity were required from the Unit and this failing has since created this confusing situation. I am happy that the matter has since been clarified and warmly welcome the fact the Birr Technology Centre is not being offered as an accomodation site, and that only a premises adjoining the site is under review for potential accomodation purposes.”
