WATCH: Car crashes as pitchfork fight unfolds in Derry

Six people were arrested and several cars damaged after a fight involving pitchforks broke out on a busy road in Derry City yesterday.

One car collided with several vehicles during Tuesday’s incident on the Buncrana Road, with a child being rushed from the first car to be hit.

CCTV footage shows the driver of the vehicle narrowly missing a man on foot who was involved in the fight.

As men brawled in the background, at least one is seen carrying a pitchfork near the petrol station.

The Buncrana Road was closed for several hours by the PSNI following the incident.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed detectives in Derry had “arrested six people following an incident in the Buncrana Road area on Tuesday afternoon (August 17th).”

“Police received a report around 12:40pm of a group of men fighting in the forecourt of a filling station on the Buncrana Road,” a statement read.

“Officers responded and attended the scene and six people have been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

“It was also reported a number of vehicles had been involved in a collision at the location.

“Detectives would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or who has any information which could assist our enquiries to contact them in Strand Road on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
