A man has been shot by police in Germany after going on a stabbing rampage at an event where Michael Stürzenberger, an outspoken activist and critic of Islam, was present.
The shocking attack, which took place in Mannheim earlier today, was captured on video as it took place in the middle of a livestream during preparations for a rally by Pax Europa.
Reacting to the attack, Alternative for Deutschland’s Beatrix von Storch said on X, “Brutal knife attack on Islam critic Michael #Stürzenberger ! The police officer who rushed to his aid was also stabbed in the neck by the attacker. The police shot the suspected Islamist. On this day more than ever: Stop Islamism!”
The video shows the man lunging at numerous people with a large knife in his hand with Stürzenberger sustaining what appears to be multiple stab wounds.
A police officer was also stabbed in the incident with the assailant lunging at his neck and the back of his head.
The attacker was shot at the scene as police officers called for assistance and rushed to the aid of their wounded colleague. It is not confirmed whether the gunshot was fatal.
Police have yet to confirm the number of people wounded in the attack.
