A 27-year old Afghan national, who is already in custody over a serious charge, has been brought before the court in Belfast in relation to planning terrorist acts. Habib Shamel is also accused of possessing items for use in terrorism.
Shamel is currently being held in custody at Maghaberry prison on unconnected charges but was arrested again in prison on Wednesday by the PSNI following an investigation into material which had been seized earlier this year.
The suspect is accused of gathering and storing information on a USB drive likely to be useful to terrorists, and also of preparation of terrorist acts between 10 February and 7 April this year.
District Judge Anne Marshall remanded Shamel in continuing custody until September 26.
