Ireland appears to be leaving the door open to a softer EU approach to the proposed 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars, after the Department of Transport declined to say to Gript whether the government still supports the original zero-emission-only target.
In a statement to Gript, a Department spokesperson said Ireland would “engage constructively” in EU negotiations and would ultimately “abide by the agreed EU regulatory position,” rather than explicitly calling for the original 2035 ban to be retained.
