One of the biggest stories of the weekend that you won’t see reported much on Irish media is the decisive victory in a New York court for a girl whose breasts were removed when she was just 16 and experiencing gender confusion, and who sued the psychologist and surgeon who supported and performed the operation.
Fox Varian, now 22, was awarded $2 million award by the court: $1.6 million for past and future pain and suffering and $400,000 for future medical expenses. She says that she has been “disfigured for life” and that “no amount of reconstruction is ever going to bring back what I lost”.
