There’s some shock among conservatives and those of the increasingly fractured right in the US at the victory of 34-year-old democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani in his run to become mayor of New York City, beating out that old stalwart of NYC politics, Andrew Cuomo.
The thing is, they really shouldn’t be shocked, for two reasons: he’s engaging, and he focused on the cost of living like a laser. Radical living conditions will result in radical voting patterns time and again, and that the cost of living in New York can be described as radical is no exaggeration.
