Yesterday, a United Nations commission of inquiry published a report which claims that Israel is in the process of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The Chairperson of the Commission, Navi Pillay, stated that “The responsibility for these atrocity crimes lies with Israeli authorities at the highest echelons who have orchestrated a genocidal campaign for almost two years now with the specific intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza.”
The other two members of the Commission at the time the report was compiled were Miloon Kothari, an Indian citizen and Australian Chris Sidoti. Pillay is South African of Indian heritage.
The Commission cited evidence that the Israeli state forces had “committed crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza, including extermination, torture, rape, sexual violence and other inhumane acts, inhuman treatment, forcible transfer, persecution based on gender and starvation as a method of warfare.”
And that as part of that “the Israeli authorities have (i) destroyed in part the reproductive capacity of the Palestinians in Gaza as a group, including by imposing measures intended to prevent births; and (ii) deliberately inflicted conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinians as a group.”
To date the Commission found that 1.9 million inhabitants of Gaza have been displaced between October 2023, following the Hamas raid into Israel, and June 2025. The two main tranches followed an evacuation order from the IDF on March 18 this year which led to 280,000 people moving, and another on July 23 which brought the numbers displaced to more than 760,000.
The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) claims that “[m]ore than two million people in the Gaza Strip have been squeezed into less than 45 square kilometres, the size of Gaza city, while 88 per-cent of the territory now falls within Israeli-militarized zones or has been placed under displacement orders.”
The Commission concluded that the Israeli state through its actions and statements has provided evidence of “genocidal intent.” Much of that has been framed in Jewish scriptural references, especially where in Samuel 1:15.3 God told the Israelites “Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.” The Commission claims that this was quoted in statements from official spokespeople.
All of this continues to play out in real time through the ground offensive by the IDF. The Times of Israel has a liveblog detailing the progress of the invasion and political reaction.
It was reported earlier today on that liveblog that 370,000 more Gazans had fled the city in recent days. The IDF had ordered what is left of the entire population to evacuate but that seems to be frustrated by logistical problems and the refusals of many to leave despite the fact that Gaza is effectively in its last days.
One of the residents claimed that there was no transport and that “There’s no land in the south, no apartments to rent. You’re asking people to leave Gaza City into the unknown, with no horizon.” So where do they go? Especially given that none of the states in the region want any more Palestinian refugees and that Egypt, which is the closest, has sealed its border.
Yesterday, Netanyahu implied that European reaction to Gaza was being shaped by the growing Muslim population. He was quoted as stating that “I don’t want to say that Europe was conquered by unchecked immigration, but to a large extent, politically, it’s happening.”
He claimed that he prevented a million Muslims from entering Israel by erecting a “fence between Africa and Israel.” Yet, as we have reported before there is growing feeling within the Israeli state and society – as tracked by opinion polls – that Europe is the logical destination for up to two million Palestinians who have been newly displaced over the past two years.
Meanwhile The Jerusalem Post reported yesterday that Israel itself is planning a large intake of immigrants. While the article refers to “diversity” the immigrants will be part of “a true homeland for all Jews.” Well, they shall have plenty of room if the current destruction of Gaza as a Palestinian controlled entity is accomplished.
The motivation for the new drive for Jewish immigration – already a huge factor in the expansion of the settlements – is attributed to the claim that “in many Western countries, Jewish communities [are] facing growing insecurity.” That, if true, is also clearly connected to what is happening in Gaza.
Might it be possible then that the Jews leaving Europe will be replaced by Muslims leaving Palestine, or what was once Palestine? Thus greatly expanding the Muslim influx into Europe; something that Netanyahu and his allies would have you believe they decry.
