Four people have been arrested after a knife attack at a Spar shop in Ranelagh, south Dublin, shortly before 1.30 pm on Wednesday.
The attack, images of which have circulated on social media, left one man injured.
The images appear to show several men on top of another man in the shop involved in acts of violence.
Gardaí believe a knife was used in the course of the attack, which is believed to have started elsewhere before moving into the shop.
The attack is suspected to have involved a knife and occurred at the prominent convenience store adjacent to the Triangle in the village.
It is understood that gardaí who were present at the scene were investigating links to another attack in Leopardstown last weekend.
It said in a statement: “Gardaí arrested four individuals who are currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. Investigations are ongoing.”
They confirmed that members of the force, including armed officers, responded to calls about the incident.
This incident comes days after a 24-year-old Roma man died after suffering “catastrophic injuries” after being struck in the head with a shovel in the midst of a large-scale violent confrontation in Leopardstown on Saturday.
Siminic Rostas died from his injuries. A number of Roma men are currently before the courts in relation to the Leopardstown incident.
