You may recall that, in this year to date as far as the public knows, two flights were chartered to great fanfare by the Irish government in order to facilitate the deportation of Georgians whose asylum applications had been refused.
The government, you also may recall, was finally forced to act on the insanity of having thousands of Georgians living in asylum accommodation in Ireland even though it is not a war-torn country, and therefore – after years of inaction – eventually starting acting on its 2018 designation of Georgia as a safe country. By this time, of course, the cumulative effect of said years of inaction had led to the bizarre situation where more than 3,000 Georgians were in IPAS accommodation – with medical cards and other services being provided as well as a weekly allowance – as at the end of 2024.
