Gript can report that the application for change of use of a dementia care centre to asylum accommodation has been withdrawn.
We published two articles this week, on Monday and Tuesday, on Shrewsbury House on the Bray Road, Cabinteely.
The application had been registered on August 13 by Mi Mi Care which is the company that leases the building and runs the day care centre.
However, when I made contact with staff at the centre it was apparent that they had no knowledge of the application and were confident that the centre would continue to provide day care for elderly people with dementia. The staff members I spoke to informed me that they were still taking bookings.
I sent several emails to the owner of Mi Mi Care, Christine King, who had apparently signed the application on behalf of the company, but received no response.
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council has updated its planning portal to note that in relation to Shrewsbury House that a decision had been made to “WITHDRAW THE APPLICATION.”
An attached document dated August 20 and signed by a Senior Staff Officer with the Council notes that “By email dated 20 August 2025, the applicant WITHDREW the application. I recommend that no further consideration be given to the application in view of the withdrawal.”
Another document dated yesterday, August 21, and addressed to Mi Mi Care simply notes the receipt of the email notifying the Council of the decision to withdraw.
Having spent quite a bit of time looking at this I am no wiser. The details of the companies involved and in particular of Twilightford Unlimited are contained in the other articles.
Whose idea it was to seek an exemption for asylum accommodation and to benefit from the millions that would then come on stream is unclear.
