Gardaí have lifted a media blackout following an incident at a domestic residence in Portlaw, Co. Waterford, which resulted in one man being hospitalised.
According to a statement issued by An Garda Síochána, emergency services were called to the scene at Brown Street, Portlaw, on the afternoon of Sunday, 2nd March 2025. Gardaí confirmed that “the incident was subsequently resolved this evening shortly after 7:00 p.m. following negotiations.”
Authorities had previously requested a media blackout on all platforms while the situation was ongoing. In a press release issued earlier that day, Gardaí stated, “An Garda Síochána is requesting a ‘Media Blackout’ on all platforms in relation to this incident. Please refrain from ringing local Garda Stations or the Garda Press Office in relation to the matter as no further information will be provided at this time.”
With the matter now resolved, Gardaí confirmed that “a ‘Media Blackout’ is no longer required.” As a result of the incident, “an adult male has been transported to a hospital in the South East of the country for medical treatment. There were no other injuries reported at the time.”
The nature of the man’s injuries has not been specified, and Gardaí have not released further details on the cause of the incident. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities stating that “no further information is available at this time.”
Gardaí also expressed appreciation for cooperation from media outlets, stating, “An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media for their cooperation during the Media Blackout.”
