Ireland’s media regulator has released some of the submissions it received as part of its consultation process in the creation of its ‘Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Strategy’, which saw respondents encouraging Coimisiún na Meán to see its diversity efforts as a “culture change project” aimed at reshaping the media landscape.
The GEDI Strategy is currently a non-legally binding guidance document that was developed in consultation with bodies working in the area of diversity and inclusion among others, and it will apply to those involved in film, television, radio, audio and animation production. It recommends media organisations take such actions as introducing anti-racism and unconscious bias training for their employees, and integrating GEDI criteria in relation to hiring, promoting and retaining staff, among many other things.
