Gardaí have confirmed that three people have been taken to hospital as a result of a serious crash in Donegal where a bus careered through a hedge and into a field following a collision with a car.
The crash happened just after 9.30am between Manorcunningham and Newtowncunningham, on the N13, close to Magherabeg National School, the Donegal Daily said.
There were 13 passengers on the Bus Éireann Expressway bus involved in the incident. Gardaí, ambulances and the fire service were at the scene and those injured were brought to Letterkenny General Hospital.
A spokesperson for Bus Éireann confirmed an investigation has been launched into the incident.
“Bus Éireann can confirm a collision occurred involving one of our coaches operating Route 64, Sligo to Derry this morning just after 10am at Manorcunningham.”
“Local emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel are in attendance at the scene and providing all necessary support. The collision will be investigated in line with our normal procedures.
“The safety of our passengers, staff and the public is of paramount importance to Bus Éireann. We would like to thank An Garda Síochána and the emergency services for their swift response to the incident.”
