An Garda Síochána say they have made an arrest in relation to the ongoing investigation connected to the disappearance of a child.
Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of six-year-old Kyran Durnin have arrested a woman in her 50s today, Monday, 25th May 2026.
“A search under warrant is being carried out at a domestic residence in Drogheda, Co. Louth, this morning,” a Garda spokesperson said.
The woman is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region, while investigations continue.
Kyran was reported missing at the end of August 2024, before Gardaí stated that he was presumed dead and launched a murder investigation.
Kyran was six years of age when he was last seen alive in June 2022.
In October that year, Gardaí searched a property at Emer Terrace in Dundalk, where his family had lived.
The following December, Gardaí in Louth investigating the disappearance and murder, renewed their appeal to the public for information.
Two people (a woman and a man) were arrested on suspicion of murder, and three domestic residences and adjoining lands had been searched.
One man who was detained over the suspected murder of Kyran was found dead a short time after his release from custody. He had been released without charge on Friday, the 12th of December.
At the time, Gardaí said they had received extensive support from the public. As part of these ongoing enquiries, new images of Kyran, which were taken in June 2022 when Kyran was 6 years old, were provided to the Garda investigation team.
