In the immediate aftermath of the disastrously defeated Family and Care referendums earlier this year, every politician, journalist and commentator came out of the woodwork to give their own analysis of what had gone so badly wrong. And many of these takes were predictably terrible and, frankly, delusional.
For example, after we had learned that the amendments were comprehensively rejected to the tune of over 90% in some areas of Dublin, Labour Party Leader Ivana Bacik was on RTÉ solemnly telling us that the public actually did want to change the Constitution – they just didn’t like the proposed wording that had been put forward.
