The timing, you’ve got to think, couldn’t really be worse for Re-turn and ESB who have hiked up the mega salaries for executives even as the public increasingly become agitated by cost of living increases.
The question is whether these companies actually really give a damn about public anger: much like the banks who quickly returned to lashing out lavish bonuses to top brass as soon as they could even after their reckless greed prior to the 2008 crash cost the taxpayer a staggering €64 Billion – a cost which we are still paying for through the hated USC taken from our wages each and every month.
