The run-up to a national election is about the most important time this writer can think of to ensure the accuracy of the electoral register, and yet we’ve recently heard that An Coimisiún Toghcháin, the State’s electoral commission, has committed to producing a report on just that after the imminent general election.
To be sure, An Coimisiún, operating off of a concern that there are inaccuracies in the register, has begun its assessment, but the result of that assessment will only become known after the general election has already taken place.
