The health service, administered by the Health Service Executive, is invariably one of the key issues voters mention in opinion polls as something that they are concerned about, and which influences their decision making when it comes to giving someone a stroke at election time.
Listeners to local radio and Raidió na Gaeltachta will also be familiar with daily updates on how many people are on trolleys in such and such a hospital. The numbers are supplied by the Irish Midwives and Nurses Organisation (INMO).
