A man (40s) has been arrested after a woman (40s) died following an assault at a domestic residence in Grange Heights, Waterford City, yesterday evening.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident at approximately 6:15pm on Monday evening.
The woman was taken to University Hospital Waterford where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The State pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is to be arranged.
The male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at a garda station in Waterford.
The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.
An incident room has been established at Waterford Garda Station, and a Senior Investigating Officer appointed to lead the investigation.
A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to support the family of the deceased.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who was in the Grange Heights area on Monday evening between 6pm and 6:30pm and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam.
Anyone who fits that description is asked to provide this footage to investigating gardaí.
