The mysterious Georgia Guidestones have been partially destroyed by what seems to have been the detonation of an explosive device.
The explosion is reported to have taken place around 4 am local time on the 6th of July.
The Stonehenge-esque granite structure, which was erected in 1980 and is located off Highway 77 in the US state of Georgia, has long been a subject of curiosity because of the mystery surrounding its origins and the nature of the inscriptions it bears.
The messages are thought by many to be a list of ‘commandments’ for a dystopian global system of government.
Perhaps most notable of these is the inscription ‘Maintain Humanity Under 500,000,000 in Perpetual Balance With Nature’.
The inscriptions are written in a host of world languages including: English, Spanish, Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Traditional Chinese, and Russian.
It also features a number of translations of the inscriptions in ancient languages namely; Babylonian (in cuneiform script), Classical Greek, Sanskrit, and Ancient Egyptian (in Hieroglyphs).
Two of the structure’s five pillars of the monument were destroyed in the blast.
It has since been reported that local authorities have knocked down the remainder of the monument citing public safety concerns.
