One of the apparent contradictions in the current statistics for persons in IPAS accommodation is that while the numbers arriving to claim International Protection have continued to increase – albeit down several thousand annually from the peak of 18,165 in 2025 – that the numbers living in Direct Provision according to official reports have barely budged since the end of 2024.
As arrivals exploded after the ending of the Covid travel restrictions, so too did the numbers of people accommodated in IPAS centres which as Gript readers will know has spawned an entire new multi-billion taxpayer funded sector.
