While the instinctive identification on the part of much of the Left with Yves Sakila and their attempt to incorporate it into a tenuous narrative of ‘racism’ and an ‘attack on all Black people’ – which the video of the incident last Friday itself renders absurd – might seem puzzling, it is a conscious one.
It dates back to the 1950s when the Marxist Left realised that the horrors of Stalinist socialism combined with the freedoms and higher living standards of the West had reduced any appeal it might once have had to the ‘straight white working class.’
