This old video of a blind man sean-nós dancing from 1929 will shake the rainy day blues  

Old Ireland in Colour has shared a gorgeous old video of a man dancing on Inis Mór in 1929 which will shake today’s rainy day blues. 

The footage of a man called Pádraig Ó Maoláin, who is blind, ag damhsa ar an seannós while some off camera plays a reel on a melodeon  was shot in 1929

The project – which colourises old footage and photographs – has proved a huge hit for historians John Breslin and Sarah Anne Buckley, with two best-selling books produced.

It’s worth checking out the entire footage at the University of South Carolina. Moving Image Research Collections to hear Ó Maoláin sing the well-known sean-nós song  ‘An Droighneán Donn’.
