Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was killed after a collision between an e-scooter and a bus in Waterford city in the early hours of this morning.
The accident took place on the R680 Cork Road at around 1:10am with the boy – who was travelling on the e-scooter – being pronounced dead at the scene of the tragedy.
A second teenage boy who had also been travelling on the e-scooter was rushed to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries.
The bus driver who was on board the vehicle alone is understood to be uninjured.
A garda spokesperson said, “The Cork Road is currently closed from the South East Technological University (SETU) to the Ring Road and a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is being conducted. Local diversions are in place.
“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.”
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford city between 12:45am and 1:15am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
