As I sat down to write this comment on the contents of the sample exam papers for the new Leaving Certificate subject ‘Climate Action and Sustainable Development’ released by the State Examinations Commission last week, I initially went in soft, too soft, and described the apparent course material as “questionable”.
So I deleted that and decided to go with my actual opinion: ‘Climate Action and Sustainable Development’ has no business being a Leaving Certificate subject, and the unfortunate students that sign up to it are going to be primed for activism as much as, if not more than, they’re educated about ecology, if the sample exams are anything like the finished product.
