Just days after the government vowed to get tough on crime in the city centre, another stabbing has taken place in Dublin, with a long blade amongst the weapons used in the attack.
Gardaí said that they were investigating an assault that occurred on Talbot Street last night, and a video of the attack which involved multiple people – several of whom were armed with weapons – is being widely circulated on social media.
A man was reportedly hospitalised after the attack, and pool of blood was visible on the footpath. One of the weapons visible in the video appears to be a long blade.
Gardaí received a report of an assault of a male at roughly 9.25 pm, a spokesperson said. A man in his 30s was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment of injuries, the Gardaí added.
The attack comes just days after a horrific stabbing spree at a primary school in Dublin, which left three children and a créche worker injured. After unprecedented scenes of rioting and looting in the city, there was an increase in calls for the need to “get tough” on crime and public disorder.
Just days after the Government once again 'gets tough' on crime in the city centre, there's a knife fight involving what appeared to be a machete on Talbot street.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Independent Councillor Mannix Flynn said there was “zero policing when there should be zero tolerance”.
He said: “It was a long blade for cutting used in the assault last night, it was a machete, you can see the blood.
“It was a very dangerous incident, a person with a very dangerous weapon which constitutes a firearm offence. It’s chaos and this is what is happening around the city not withstanding the riots that took place.
“This disorder is happening all over the city, there’s zero policing when there should be zero tolerance. They’re telling us the city is safe but we have to face this on a nightly basis.”
He said: “The city is suffering atrociously, children are terrified to go out the door, parents don’t want their kids going out, and tourists and refugees are terrified to go out the door. It’s reached the point now of no return.”
Apologies to the original posters who posted these videos, but it's been officially confirmed. Yet another stabbing in #Dublin city last night. Talbot Street. I wasn't sure when I saw the videos and waited for confirmation, but the pool of blood says it all… pic.twitter.com/XVqq7AKFUP
