Schools across country Clare have been told to remain closed until lunch time today after a sinister “communication” was sent to schools in the county.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to Gript that An Garda Síochána are“aware of a communication that has been sent to a number of educational establishments” on Tuesday.
“Gardaí are currently assessing the contents and credibility of that communication. Gardaí are engaging with the affected educational establishment with regard to this ongoing incident. Any senior management of these establishments with concerns are advised to make contact with Ennis Garda station. No further information is available at this time,” the spokesperson added.
“No further information is available at this time,” the statement concluded.
The Clare Echo reported that the communication is a “bomb threat” and that a “heavy Garda presence” has been deployed to schools in the area.
Both primary and secondary schools have been affected, it reported with schools to stay closed until at least 12 noon today as Gardaí investigate.
The Clare Champion reported that a number of schools including ones in Ennis, Shannon, Sixmilebridge, Clarecastle and Crusheen are all closed today.
“In some cases parents were informed via internal communications networks while in other cases the closure only emerged after children arrived. Gardai are currently investigating the message that was sent overnight.” it said.
