I’ve resisted all week the temptation to write about Philip Schofield, primarily because I don’t think readers come to Gript to read about washed-up British celebs. But seriously.
It does not matter, I think, that Philip Schofield is gay. It does not particularly matter, I think, that he had an affair with a 20-year-old male staffer on his show whom he met when the staffer was just 15. For the UK Press, this appears to be a story about an abuse of power in the workplace, but Schofield is hardly the first man – or person for that matter – to succumb to the temptations of a younger and attractive underling. Nor will he be the last. We are all human – which is not to excuse reality but to acknowledge it.
