Former Republic of Ireland footballer, Paul McGrath, has weighed in to support DJ and comedian PJ Gallagher after he was targeted with “cruel” jibes by MMA star, Conor McGregor.
The war of words broke out after Gallagher responded to the inclusion of McGregor on a ‘Top 5 UK fighters’ list by saying: “normally this kind of thing winds me up but they can have this lad.”
McGregor lashed back in a now-deleted late night tweet which has been slammed as being cruel, given Gallagher’s public discussion of his mental health difficulties.
Today is one year exactly since I was admitted into St Pats with mental illness. This pic in @radionova100 was the last one taken before I went in. Absolutely torn up inside and scared out of my shite of what was gonna happen next. Today I’ve never felt better in my life. pic.twitter.com/Zqx8QCepfn

McGregor deleted his tweet after a flurry of condemnation, but famed footballer Paul McGrath had words about the jibe.

McGrath also told McGregor that he needed to find God – and that he’d have the kettle on if the MMA fighter decided to knock on his door.
