The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is not due to publish its annual estimates on migration and population for the period April 2024 to April 2025 until next month, but there are other indicators that the level of inward migration continues to steadily increase.
That is despite the sharp fall in the number of Ukrainians coming to live in the Irish state to whom 10,238 PPS numbers were issued in 2024 compared to 33,366 in 2023. There has also been a fall in the number of persons claiming International Protection – 5,037 to the end of May – although the numbers are set to be higher than any year other than last year when there were 18,561 applications.
