A publicity event to assure the public about the efficacy and safety of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine did not go to plan when a head nurse at a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee fainted shortly after receiving the jab.
Fainting is a common side effect of many vaccines, and is not considered harmful. In fact, the US centre for disease control recommends that people who receive any vaccine stay sitting down for up to 15 minutes after receiving their injection. Clearly, that did not happen in this instance.
Tiffany Dover, the nurse manager at CHI Memorial, received the vaccine shortly before addressing the media. Video from a local media outlet showed her feeling dizzy and then fainting. Doctors at the press event managed to catch her.

Doctors said that the vaccine ingredients did not cause Ms Dover to faint, and the nurse later said that she has a condition where she could faint when she feels pain.
In the United States, Vice President Mike Pence will become the highest-profile recipient of the vaccine today, and his wife Karen Pence is set to publicly receive the vaccine to promote its “safety and efficacy.”
