More than two years have passed since I wrote a piece for Gript highlighting a deeply disturbing scoping report published by experts in UCD which said that some of our most vulnerable girls are being raped and sexually exploited by gangs of predatory men – and it is happening while they are in the care of TUSLA, the state agency charged with keeping them safe.
The report made for horrific reading – revealing that men were “hanging around hotel lobbies” in order to sexually exploit young girls staying in Tusla’s care, and that predators were at one point “banging on the doors, banging on the windows and absolutely everything to try to get into the place” to get their victims to come with them.
