On May 26, the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, and Minister for State for Migration, Colm Brophy, announced that they had secured Cabinet backing for a new scheme related to the position of Ukrainian citizens who are in Ireland as beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTP.)
Since the Russian invasion in February 2022 more than 120,000 Ukrainians have been granted Temporary Protection. In February, the Central Statistics Office estimated, on the basis of active PPS numbers granted to Ukrainians, that more than 84,000 still remained in Ireland.
