Men and women behave differently. This was a fact of life since Eden up until about three minutes ago, when it was decided that men and women were the same, and anyone could choose to be either sex or many – totalling about eighty-three. This is roughly the same number of virgins as an Islamic male-martyr gets as a heavenly reward for his noble sacrifice. I’m not sure what a female martyr gets: possibly a new Burka plus eighty-three sets of shoes, but one thing is clear. The rewards are not the same.
The extension of the permanent defence-forces mandatory age of retirement to sixty was last week extended to the PDF Reserve, simply because recruitment is so abysmal, as is the pay. Moreover, in common with most western armies, the Irish defence forces have been transformed to accommodate women, and lo and behold, recruitment has fallen everywhere. Soldiers join armies to fight, not be a martial experiment in gender-neutrality.
