MEP candidate “angered” by colleague’s immigration comments

A Fianna Fáil MEP candidate has hit out at immigration comments by his own party colleague and running mate as “ill judged.”

Fianna Fáil Offaly TD Barry Cowen, who is running in the European Elections in the Midlands-North-West constituency, called for random spot checks on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic in an effort to apprehend illegal immigrants.

However, in a statement this afternoon, Fianna Fáil Senator Niall Blaney – who is running in the same constituency as Cowen as his running mate – said he was “angered” by the comments.

“The call by my colleague Barry Cowen for the border to be hardened to handle a serious escalation of the ongoing migration crisis is ill judged,” he said.

“Whilst Barry’s comments do express the genuine alarm and frustration experienced by people everywhere, it is a frustration felt not just in the south but across the entire island. This is not the way to go.”

He added: “We have fought long and hard to get rid of border controls on this island. I am angered that anyone in the Dáil would suggest that after the Good Friday Agreement that this is only a problem on one side of the border.”

The Senator went on to say that the migration issue was a “European problem” that had to be seen in a “wider context.”

“The Taoiseach needs to accept that this is a crisis and call an emergency meeting of the cabinet to ensure that immediate action takes place,” he said.

“This is a European problem, and one that we should seek to handle in that wider context. This is why a border voice in the European Parliament essential. I certainly will not abandon them.”

He also added that the constant focus on the tent encampments in Dublin was missing the bigger picture of the immigration issue’s impact across the country.

“The continuous talk about tents in Dublin is only a small part of our migrant issues,” he said.

“Everything does not revolve around Dublin. I’m angry that our health and education services are full to the brim in border counties, the west and the midlands, and nobody is playing a blind bit of notice.

“We’re giving a message to our diaspora that there is no room for them to come home and yet we continue to pay asylum seekers who are here illegally until they are processed.

“The Taoiseach needs to realise the extent of the crisis. If we want to understand what’s driving the anti-immigration sentiment, it’s the inability of the Department for Integration and the Department of Justice to deal with this crisis over the past two years. Our Taoiseach needs to act.”

We are an Island. There are only a limited number of daily flights & ferries from the UK to Ireland. We can police our own borders at the ports & airports & refuse non UK citizens leave to disembark. They shouldn’t be allowed on the planes & ferries in the first place.

Re flights & planes headed to Northern Ireland , surely we can come up with a deal with the UK to allow the seas to be policed in the same way to keep non UK citizens out of Northern Ireland & by extension the republic.

Also enough of this “EU approach lies from politicians” . We are an island nation , if Denmark who are smack bang in the middle of mainland Europe can do it so can we!

The UK could use it’s gunboats to sink the dinghies. They have a Royal Navy for a reason.

We have a navy with nine ships. Unfortunately due to the complete lack of competence in government we only have enough men to crew one ship. There is no end of money for international scammers but the government attitude is that the defense forces can go and shag off.

Laura, this is not an accident. It was done deliberately by the globalists in government. There is lots that they could do that is in full accord with both Irish and international law. They choose to do nothing and allow the disaster to grow. Vote these vile people out of Leinster house as soon as you can.

Bollocks. Ireland’s issue is not an EU or global issue. We should be able to control our own borders, and any politician who disagrees with that is automatically dismissed as someone I’d vote for.

In a flight of imagination – thinking of Blaney serving up a nice breakfast in his residence for some of his “guests” – it occurred to me that “Niall of the Nine Sausages” would be a good name for him – but then – it occurred to me his “guests” would most likely be adherents to the “Religion of Peace” – and, so, the ol’ pork would have to be off the menu 😝 !!!!

Hahahahahahaha, they would be disgusted by the smell of a rasher in the morning alright. What I find more funny is the soundbites out of cowen for votes. Little do the people know that the family business, td securities is funded by a blackrock and vanguard shell which amazingly enough happened after the imf brought in the vultures. If he was so anti ff policy, he would have been kicked out by now. He aint fooling anyone with this rubbish.

whilst agreeing with Cowens comments we need a full moratorium on all non labour based immigration aligned with a mass deportation policy funded via the 6 billion annual NGO budget. Cown however is a snake, never before was this his position until his re-election bid. Do not be fooled by these turncoat snakes

we had canvessers around the doors last night ,i asked EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM what their stance is on illegal immigration and the right to house IRISH CITIZENS before incoming migrants , NOT ONE OF THEM WOULD GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER !
i got the auld ” but we have commitments to the EU bollocks and answered that ireland has the right to veto those ” com.itments” without penalty or recompence under special disspentation !
i may as well have talked to my garden fence , at least thats only as THICK as a single short plank !!

Ireland is the land of Cead Mile Mile Mile Mile Mile ….Failte. Carbon emission targets be blowed. This government is intent on welcoming an infinite number of people to our shores. Only when that number has been exceeded by the Irish diaspora abroad will it consider an alternative policy.

Without discussing the pros and cons of strict border control, it is a fact that this would not prevent anyone with an Irish or NI (UK) passport from freely moving back and forth – only a little bit of inconvenience. However, those with no passports would be blocked.

Why would we do that at the border?? We don’t do it at in any other point of entry onto Ireland!! Jacob Rees Mogg, has clearly stated his position in this, firstly get the immigrants out of England, send them to other parts of the Britain where access to the Border with Ireland is easily accessible and let them on from there. He even went as far as to say that just to the north side of the boarder are many abandoned Government sites that can be used as a staging post for these ILLEGAL immigrants on their journey to the south. He also pointed out mistakenly that N.I is essentially British, which it is not, it is part of the U.K, god forbid that anything relating to this island could be remotely considered “British”. I would ask the Shinners( oops bit of hate speech there) Sin Feiners in the 6 counties how do you feel about your constituency being used as a stepping stone for the English Tory party in an act of revenge on the Irish for the hiding they got from us in the Brexit negotiations?

Every time we think we have heard it all we get yet another slap in the face. Now there going to supply them with a personal assistant to make sure then know how to fleece the state out of every posable cent they can, and to let them know how to put paddy in his place if he opens his mouth, says the wrong thing or looks at them sideways. OMG, you really couldn’t make this stuff up.

Paddy last is the ultimate goal. Still this is the will of the people! The government will always fall back on the excuse “Well we got a mandate from the people don’t you know”?

For sure and the politicians who tell you one thing in their manifestos and do the complete opposite once in government are concerned about how other news sources could be responsible for Misinformation! You couldn’t make it up.

Being taken for a ride is one thing. Paying for someone else to take you for a ride is another, After eight hundred years you would think a nation would have developed a sense of awareness.

So lets pretend we are syrian illegals. We fly into the country and dump our passports down the plane jacks. We approach passport control and say asylum. We are then transported to our hotel accommodation after the interview process if there is one which I doubt and then we spend a couple of months waited on hand and foot with free everything until we get asylum because of the so called evil regime. We geting weekly money as well and all our external expenses paid. Then paddy pays for a house and we are escorted with private transport with our belongings to the house we got for free while paddy stays homeless as we dont care because we got our free house and then we scrounge off the state rent free for the rest of our lives while we breed paddy out of existence. Its happening all over the country, there are housing estates in donegal for illegals, wicklow they are building them which i posted yesterday, mahon in cork as well just to name a few. I am actually speechless at this stage when I see this shit.

If we’re waiting for the EU to solve this problem…..we’ll be waiting. Pull down the hatch now and stop the unchecked, gates-wide-open immigration. Crisis means radical action NOW. Border checks should be instituted immediately, or ID cards introduced for all immigrants verifying their identity and nationality status as well as medical and criminal acceptability. Immediate, radical, remedial action needs to be introduced. Surely the EU would support such ID cards in the interests of regulated migration?

shame ón gript for giving these two wealthy farmers a space to air their shit

Would you support a decision by Ireland to copy the UK's "Rwanda Plan", under which asylum seekers are sent to the safe - but third world - African country instead of being allowed to remain here?
