A man has been arrested by Gardaí following a hijacking incident on Belgard Road, Dublin 24, in the early hours of Friday.
At around 2:45 a.m., a man stopped at traffic lights in Clondalkin was approached by another man armed with a knife. The assailant entered the vehicle and forced the driver to take him to another location. The driver managed to escape and reported the incident to Gardaí.
Gardaí later found the vehicle abandoned and arrested a suspect, a man in his 30s, nearby. He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in West Dublin.
An Garda Síochána are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Anyone who was in the Belgard Road or Clondalkin area between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. is urged to contact the investigating Gardaí.
“An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward,” the Gardaí said in a statement.
“Any person who was travelling on the Belgard Road or the Clondalkin area this morning between 2:00am and 3:00am is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.
“Additionally, road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
The Gardaí added: “Investigations are ongoing.”
