A man charged with the hijacking of a vehicle while a 5-month-old baby girl was in the back of the car has appeared before the courts.
47-year-old Noel Ryan who has no fixed address is charged with hijacking the vehicle from the Mountjoy Square area of Dublin at about 1:50pm last Monday while the baby’s mother was removing a buggy from the boot.
Ryan is charged with the unlawful seizure of a vehicle and the abduction of a child, RTÉ reports.
As Gript previously reported, the incident sparked a major Garda alert and a Child Rescue Alert in efforts to locate the vehicle with the baby inside the vehicle still in her carseat.
Gardaí recovered the vehicle at approximately 4pm on the day it was taken with the baby being found to be safe and well.
Defence for the accused, Eoin Lysaght, said he would not be making a bail application on behalf of Ryan who was remanded in custody to appear before a sitting of Cloverhill District Court again next week.
