The Minister for Education Joe McHugh has announced that all Leaving Certificate students studying languages will receive marks of 100% in lieu of oral assessments.

Oral exams in Irish and modern European language were due to begin on 23 March place but have now been cancelled.

The oral assessment is worth 40% of the overall marks in Irish in the Leaving Certificate, and 25% of marks in modern European languages.

No final decision has been made about whether the Leaving Cert will actually take place or when schools might reopen.
