The latest statistics from the EU on the number of deportations of non-EU citizens across the 27 member states shows that there has been a continued steady decline in the numbers ordered to leave since the start of 2025, but a slight increase in the numbers who were actually returned to a third country outside of the EU.
Despite the much-reported rigour being deployed with regard to Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan’s desire to step up the removal of persons who are forced to leave the state, the EU figures for the first quarter of this year show that the number of deportations of non-EU nationals fell.
