Gript has been notified by Fianna Fáil County Councillor Donna Phelan that the proposed IPAS centre in Kilcock which we reported on this morning is “no longer under consideration.”
Councillor Phelan, who I had emailed this morning, had requested her colleague James Lawless who is TD for Kildare North to ask the Minister for Justice “to seek clarity” on the status of the application.
The Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, was informed this afternoon that “The Community Engagement Team can confirm that the Department had previously received an offer of potential accommodation for people seeking international protection at Shalom Nursing Home,16 R148 Church Street, Kilcock, Co. Kildare and the property is no longer under consideration.”
Hundreds of people attended a rally last night at the site, and more protests were planned over the coming days.
